Why it's worth one conversation: in three studies of US workers, the expectation of keeping an eye on work email outside work hours was linked to more anxiety, and through it to poorer health and relationship quality, for the employees and for their partners (Becker et al., 2021). They were surveys and repeated check-ins rather than experiments, so they show a link, not cause and effect. What's expected of you after hours is the part one conversation can clear up.
If you hear "well, you're salaried," it's fair to ask what hours are actually expected. Salaried doesn't have to mean always on. How to keep work out of your evenings once the expectation is clear is in how to stop thinking about work.
